The elegant 5-acre estate was designed and built by Gardiner & Larson Homes in 1996. The home is uniquely powered entirely by solar energy and the expansive grounds include meticulous gardens, two water features and a stunning pool area overlooking New Canaan Land Trust property. The interior of the home features an elegant master suite designed by DEANE, 12 foot ceilings throughout and oversized windows and doors creating a welcoming environment for indoor / outdoor living. The interiors were designed by Townsend & Co Interiors with the goal of embracing the homeowners sophisticated style, appreciation of classic architecture and love of modern decor all while keeping family and function at the forefront of each decision. For the holidays, the home will be an ode to “The Holidays in New York,” drawing inspiration from the tree at Rockefeller Center, festive lights and whimsical shop windows of Fifth Avenue. We look forward to working with Pound Ridge Nursery and Bloomcraft Florals to bring the spirit of New York to the country.
This beautiful home is a modern interpretation of a New England colonial and is located in the coveted historic Silvermine neighborhood. Upon entering the home, guests will be wowed by the wonderful open floor plan and well-appointed natural elements, such as wooden beams and antique Belgian white oak floors. This historical home was originally completed in 1906 for Charles Diefenthaler and his wife Antonia Fisher as a summer escape from the Big City. At the time of the construction, sweeping views of the Long Island Sound were possible from the entire south facing side and today you can still see the water in the winter months from the veranda that stretches the length of the home. By 1912, the property had grown to 56 acres and then in the 1980s, it was subdivided into 7 parcels along a private lane known as Kellam Hill. While the exteriors are distinguished by the dark, natural shingles and the interiors by extensive mahogany millwork, the position of the house on top of the ridge floods every room with light. The current homeowners bought this estate for their family of six in 2015 and have lovingly restored the home and with the southern inspired style and guidance of Lisa Hildebrand of Hildebrand Interiors. The expansive front to back foyer and living room are adorned with beautiful antiques collected from all over the world with splashes of vibrant colors in the form of modern art and fabrics. The traditional dining room showcases the homeowner’s fabulous silver collection. The wood paneled study exudes a Wyoming hunting lodge vibe. Lastly, the relaxed kitchen and family room were recently combined into a single great room, bookended by a Lacanche stove. For this holiday season, Lisa Hilderbrand will transport the home back to the golden age with a classical representation of Christmas featuring greenery and fresh produce. The living room will showcase a 12’ tree provided by Gregg’s Garden Center and florals will be provided by the talented Karen Legan of Lemon Dahlia. Weather permitting, guests will depart through the sprawling veranda, without a doubt the highlight of this country estate.
This colonial house has a striking traditional exterior which is wonderfully juxtaposed by a sophisticated contemporary interior. It is no surprise that Riverside Design & Build was the recipient of two HOBI awards for this stunning home. The homeowners incorporated fabulous furnishings from brands such as Roche Bobois, Fendi Casa and Taylor Llorente in their design. The custom kitchen by Deane incorporates functionally beautiful spaces for cooking and dining. Dana Koebbe, the interior designer for the Holiday House Tour, will utilize contemporary holiday decor and pops of color to complement the interiors. Emily Candee of Vine will collaborate with Dana to provide floral arrangements. The gorgeous pool house and recently completed detached garage are reflective of mid-century design and are a nod to New Canaan's architectural history - the Alice Ball and Celanese homes neighbor this home. The new garage holds the homeowners’ extensive luxury car collection which will be on display during the tour and is a must see!
